  1. Hello everybody, I'm very excited about the race while reading your comments on the forum. Sorry that I write the post in English, but I'am not that proficient in German, but I did understand the most of what was written. My name is Hrvoje Džanko, and I'am from Croatia. This year I registered for the A race, and I hope I'll finish it. I've already been in Bad Goisern before, first time in 2000. when I finished the 47 km course, and I was hooked for endurance racing afterwards. After that I had 5 finishes on B course. In 2008. I was at the start of A race, but didn't finish it (I was to excited and couldn't sleep all night). I beleive that the part of the problem was that I came from Adriatic the few days earlier where it was very hot, and in Bad Goisern was rainy that day so it was kind of a shock to a system. I hope it will not be very cold this year. As a training for Salzkammergut trophy this year I rode two ultra endurance MTB races in the north Croatia where I live. First was Prilok maraton in May (160 km mostly on asphalt with 2 major climbs and a total of only about 2000hm). I was strong on a climb, and managed to bring it home first in 6:42 h. The flat part was a much bigger problem for me since I had to battle with the head wind for almost 90 km, and I'am small (170 cm and no Watt powerhouse) The second race was Kajkavijana (named after north Croatian dialect) which started at midnight in the town of Varaždin and covering all major hills of the region with about 280 km and 4300 hm. The thing with these races is that every competitor is free to choose his/her way to checkpoints which consist of sending SMS message and perforator as a proof of passing certain location. Besides that, all competitors have to be self sufficient, keine Labestationen. After winning in Prelog, I had high hopes for this one. At the end I was second, with only 5 min because I went for the way throught the forrest which is much shorter in km, but trail was in bad condition so I couldn't rode it. My strength was also in depression for the last 2 hours of the race because I probably didn't eat enough. This took me 16:10 hours and 267,5 km and about 4300 hm. Last year I also finished 2nd, with only 2 min behind the winner, and I have to say I was bitterly dissapointed, but so it is sometimes in the sport. You ask yourself, what the hell I'am doing here?, and then you apply for the race again next year;) As you can see, there were no profi's there; only bike enthusiasts, mostly family people (including me with my 2 year boy), some very ambitious (preparing for 1001 mile Breveto); even a person with diabetes that managed to finish it succesfully. Anyway it was a good way to try your limits and experience long hours in the saddle. Maybe some of will want to try it in 2013. After all, this is less than 150 km from Graz for example (Varaždin and Prelog) Sorry, if I seemed a bit offtopic but I just wanted to present some background as some other people did on this forum. I wish all the luck to the competitors in Bad Goisern, and perhaps we'll meet at the start line. I have to admitt that I'am anxious about the weather, I hope it won't rain too much. My only goal is to finish, I do not dare to speculate about the result. Arriving at the finish in Bad Goisern is always a very special experience. Greetings Hrvoje Džanko P.S. As Croatian sports supporters say NEMA PREDAJE (NO SURRENDER!!!)
