Preliminary agreement reached on Marzocchi’s future

 

The Marzocchi management entered today into a preliminary agreement to start an acquisition procedure by the multinational Tenneco Inc,. in order to provide additional opportunities for growth and to continue the tradition of a brand that contributes to writing some of the most exiting pages of the motorcycle and mountain bike history.

 

 

Tenneco is one of the world’s largest designers, manufacturers and marketers of suspension systems and emission control products. Today’s agreement is the initial step in the purchase process. A final agreement and closing is dependent on a number of conditions and the legally-required consultations with the works councils representing Marzocchi employees. This potential acquisition would allow the Marzocchi brand to achieve worldwide new ambitious goals. Bringing the high-end know-how in the motorcycle business first and in the mountain bike then, the company based in Zola Predosa wishes to consolidate and achieve additional market share thanks to the resources of Tenneco, a $6.2 billion company based in Lake Forest, Illinois and with approximately 21,000 employees worldwide. Such a cooperation will bring benefits to Marzocchi from the technical and financial point of view in order to continue in Italy the growth of a brand that represents since day one the engineering potential of the Italian manufactures. Some details are still to be clarified before the acquisition can be completed, but the procedure is expected to be finalized by September in order to accelerate the integration program and optimize the resources to continue to guarantee to all the customers high-end premium products in bouth market areas as aftermarket and original equipment.

 

Established in 1949 by Guglielmo and Stefano Marzocchi the workshop in Zola Predosa can guarantee in the bike business an unmatchable experience that became a life style that has originated the most exiting ways to understand the bikers philosophy, bringing for the first time motorcycle technology and assembly strategy to the bike business. The American automotive group Tenneco Inc. has entered into a preliminary agreement to purchase the suspension business of Gruppo Marzocchi, the Italian-based supplier of mountain bike and motorbike suspension technology.

 

The agreement is the initial step in the purchase process which will only be finalised if a number of conditions are met and after the legally-required consultation with the works councils representing Marzocchi employees.

 

The potential acquisition would be made through Tenneco taking on Marzocchi's suspension business debt, which is calculated at $15 million.

 

Tenneco say the acquisition would allow them to maximise the benefits of the brand, technology and product synergies of the two companies, providing customers with integrated suspension systems (forks, shock absorbers and elastomers) for motorcycles and other applications.

 

Tenneco is a $6.2 billion global manufacturing company with headquarters in Illinois and markets its products principally under the Monroe, Walker, Gillet and Clevite Elastomer brand names.
