Allen Toussaints jüngste CD ist eine Spätfolge des Hurricanes Katrina vor fünf Jahren. Aus Pausenimprovisationen bei Aufnahmen zu einer Benefiz-CD entstand die Idee, sich der grand old melodies aus New Orleans anzunehmen. "The Bright Mississippi" lässt nun hören, dass Allen Toussaint, dessen Domänen seit den 1960ern Soul, Funk und Pop waren, es ebenso versteht, mit dem Blues und dem großen Fluss zu spielen.
