Test Events for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing

The Organizing Committee for the Beijing Olympic Games (BOCOG) will already host cycling events at its Olympic Games venue during the 2007 season.

Test events have been confirmed for the four Olympic cycling disciplines (road, track, mountain bike and BMX) to ensure that the Olympic events will run without a hitch in 2008.

Following a request from the UCI, backed by the International Olympic Committee, BOCOG has agreed to invite 30 women mountain bike riders to the international mountain bike test event on September 22.

Invitations to the mountain bike test event, based on the UCI Nations Ranking from 31 December 2006, will be distributed as follows:

Women (10 nations, 3 riders per nation)

o Asia: China, Japan, Vietnam

o Oceania: New Zealand

o Africa: South Africa

o America: Canada, United States

o Europe: Norway, Germany, Poland.

Men (15 nations, 3 riders per nation)

o Asia: China, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea

o Oceania: New Zealand, Australia

o Africa: South Africa, Namibia

o America: United States, Canada, Colombia

o Europe: Switzerland, France, Spain, Netherlands.

As this test event is open only to the invited nations, it will not count for the UCI ranking. In the case of non participation of an invited nation, the next Asian ranked nation will be invited.

Tests for the other cycling disciplines will be held as follows:

Road – Class 2 event for invited nations as part of the UCI Asia Tour

August 18th – road race

August 19th – time trial

BMX – UCI BMX Supercross World Cup

August 20th – 21st

Track – UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics

December 7th – 9th.
