I have both due to a change in the specification on one vs. the other.
Originally the SLR version was rated up to 2.5 lbs but they changed it later on, down to 1.5 lbs. Mine was purchased based on the 2.5lbs, but the SLR model couldn't handle my setup which came in just slightly over 2 lbs. I contacted Joby about an upgrade and got the SLR-Zoom model, it did the trick.
I would tell you that the D50 or any other DSLR deserves the SLR-Zoom Gorillapod. It's rated to 6.5 lbs which is more than enough, unless you are shooting pro withe a 9lb lens, ;-)
The only thing is that the SLR model has a swivel head with quick release, the SLR-Zoom model has a screw thread and no quick release. You can screw the camera directly to the pod, or, what most people do, is use the supplied thread converter and buy a ball head (about 30$) and put that on the Gorillapod. If you look at the photos on the Joby site, that is what they do.
This one is with a tilt/ball head:

And this one is without thehead, just as the Gpod is sold:

So...as I said, I would go with the SLR-Zoom model, it should cover what you need.
Vielleicht hilft das jmd. (wie mir) bei der Entscheidung. Ich höre übrigens nur Gutes von dem Ding.
